Contractors Insurance WA

Contractors in Washington are required to carry contractors’ insurance – WA State makes it mandatory for contractors wanting to register in the state, whether for a general or specialty contractor license. As the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (WSDLI) explicitly states, “contractors must be bonded and insured.”

Currently, the state requires contractors to provide a surety bond and to carry general liability insurance with a $50,000 property damage policy and $200,000 public liability policy or a $250,000 combined single limit policy. As in most other states, workers’ compensation insurance is mandatory in Washington as well, where it’s more often referred to as industrial insurance. The state has an industrial insurance program, the Washington State Fund, managed by the Insurance Services Division of the WSDLI.

You should view the state’s insurance requirements as only the starting point in your quest for the best contractors’ insurance-WA, however. Many companies have their own requirements when contracting out their projects and this frequently includes an extensive insurance package with not only general liability and industrial insurance, but commercial auto and truck insurance as well.
